Things that bother Nick: Part 2

It is time for another installment of things that bother me.  Today I wanted to talk about girls and David Stern.  These two things are pretty much the same that they should go well together. (Yes that is right Stern you are a little girl.)
I have spent many a day wondering what I could possibly do in my life to make myself more appeasing to the opposite sex, but I have yet to find an answer t this improbable question.  I have had plenty first dates that go well but only to find myself in the gut wrenching friend zone of each and every girl.  I guess not every girl.  Let me not forget all the girls who I have been on more then one date with but if I am not ready to commit after the second date they seem to be scared off.  What the hell is wrong with girls?  Why can’t we just take things slow?   I see friends and acquaintances getting deep into a relationship way to fast and that leads to quick marriage and engagement.  Yes, maybe you did find that certain someone that it just came easy with but that is no reason to get freaking engaged after 2 weeks.  Let’s think about life for a while and get to know each other.  The honeymoon stage of a relationship is no state of mind to enter into such a great commitment.  If I were the ruler of some communist nation I would require people to court each other for at least a year before they tied the knot.  But, since we live in a democracy and have the right to do what we want I guess we just let them make the mistake.  We should really look at the divorce rate these days though.  It is just going up and up and hat is because people are settling and not taking the time to make sure their partner is one they can spend a lifetime with.  C’mon Man!!!!
Secondly, I would like to let everyone know how much David Stern pisses me off.  He is one man (along side Rodger Goodell) that can really push my buttons for some weird reason.  Mostly my hate comes from how appallingly he runs the NBA.  Stern worries way too much about him self and in the end he is walking away with a huge check.  Dear Mr. Stern if you are going to get paid and overly large sum of money you have no right to take sides during a CBA on what should happen.  P.S. You really need to sell the Hornets because you have no idea how to run a team.  I still don’t understand the trade for CP3.  The first trade seemed more legit than the second but what can we do?  Can’t overturn your decision I guess!  David Stern I don’t like you!

Things that bother Nick: Part 1

Inability to dance and San Diego sports

As I sat listening to my English teacher in class last week I began a list.  I didn’t know exactly where I was going with this list until this very moment.  It was a list of things that bothered me or I had a problem with.  Then I thought to myself: “This list will make for many great blogs!”  It started to grow and with my lackluster of an English teacher I got a lot written down in one class.  It has anything from Girls to testing, and problems in college football to David Stern.  My list grew to around 50 topics, so I have plenty to write about in the next month or so.  So I guess to begin we first most thank Miss Doctor Sue Bennett.  She really inspired many great topics to entrain all that might read.
First topic at hand is the terrible name the Padres and Chargers give the City of San Diego at times.  The Padres take every great opportunity they have to succeed but somehow always seem to find a way to mess it up in the end.  They have always had great talent down in the farm system, but they always seem to find away to get rid of them without really getting anything in return. Then when they do have one great talent make it to the “Big Leagues” they ruin it with a trade for some money and maybe a 6th round pick at the best.  C’mon San Diego…You have such a great ballpark and it is going to waste with out using it to its full potential.  I just wish to see the Padres become a true threat in a division that is already pretty weak some years.  Then you have the San Diego Chargers who always show the potential to dominate the NFL but seem to screw it up by keeping weak links around the team.  They just resigned one of the biggest weak links ever to step foot in the Chargers front offices, Norv Turner.  Every season the sports analyst say the team has potential to make it to the super bowl, but some how they seem to mess it up year after year.  San Diego I will never take my allegiance from these teams, but can we please use our minds and get out of these horrible ruts of nothingness.
Lastly, let’s talk about how terrible dancer I am.  Every single day I wish I could shuffle.  What is so hard about simply moving your body to a beat?  I feel like a complete idiot when I am trying to show off any sort of movement you might call a dance move.   Is it a simple matter of gaining self-confidence in my moves, or is it really a talent you have to be born with?   I ask have been known to say down a pretty sick sprinkler and shopping cart, but can I really count those as moves to live by on the dance floor.  Hopefully someday I find the answer to my dancing problems and I can hit the floor with a pop, lock and drop it!  But, until then I guess I will stick to the two-step taught to me by Will Smith.  It is simple, classy, and little work.

To Linfinity and Beyond!

Sports bring stories that change our lives.  This last football season brought us Tim Tebow and his faith, Cam Newton and his incredible rookie season, and the story of Peyton Manning sitting making the team go from first to worst.  The stories a sports team or player can bring change the way people think in life.  One day you could just be an average player and the next you are starting and putting up MVP numbers.
This brings me to the subject at hand.  Never in my wildest dreams did I see the Linsanity coming.  Out of nowhere this kid, Jeremy Lin, comes off the Knicks bench and provides are spark for a team that is 7 games fewer than .500 and out of the playoff picture.  With Melo injured and Amre tending to family matters no one was even giving the Knicks a chance in their next few games.  Two stars done and struggling to find a PG that can play every game with consistency was the major issue.  Then the stars align and Lin, who was about to be cut from the team, is put into the starting rotation and starts showing the world what a undrafted, hard working, second year player out of Harvard can do with the right opportunity.
The rise to stardom has been so fast and crazy for Lin, I am sure it is just all a fairy tail for him.  The thing is his stat line is off the charts.  If he can keep up these numbers all season long there is no doubt in my mind that he should be in the talk for MVP.  Yes LeBron James is my top candidate, but this story and numbers just make him more exciting to watch.  In fact this is the first time in my life I have ever been excited to watch the Knicks play.  The Knicks have truly been a laughing stock in the league for far to long.  This is the chance for all the stars (Lin, Carmelo, and Amre) to align and make the city of New York proud of their team once again.
From rags to riches is the story Lin provides.  Yes his salary will not change this season, but I can guarantee at the end of this season contract offers from around the league will be very pleasing to his eye.  It will be no more sleeping on couches of family, friends, and teammates.  But, it will be him spending his time off in a mansion with some hot Asian chick (Asian because he family probably wouldn’t approve of anything else) and feeling what it is really like to be a star PG.
These stories in sports are what make me so intrigued to become a writer for some big sports site someday. Never underestimate the power of a young player and the great impact he can bring to the game given the chance.
